2010-11-03 : 2010 Rating List - Bogus Claims
We are aware that a number of emails and letters have been sent out to ratepayers over the last few weeks which appear to be a revised business rates bill from the local Council, claiming that payments can be reduced to a certain figure. The letter encourages the recipient to call while the email asks the recipient to "Click Here to Accept a Reduced Non-Domestic Rates Bill" within the next seven days.
Ruddle Merz has discovered that this literature HAS NOT been sent from the local Council but is simply a misleading attempt to gain interest in order for a salesperson to contact the company, with the aim to signing a contract with this particular rating agent.
The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) condemns this type of behaviour by rating agents, however, as the agents in question are not regulated by RICS, this matter is not within their jurisdiction.
Ruddle Merz would like to remind existing and potential clients that we will correspond with you directly to advise of any genuine overpayment due to you. If you have received a copy of the correspondence in question and are unsure of what action to take, Ruddle Merz will be happy to advise you. Contact us on 0800 883 0353 or email enquiries@ruddlemerz.co.uk.
