2011-10-06 : Business leaders call for UK-wide enterprise zone
Sir Richard Branson, Duncan Bannatyne and George Jatania are among leading members of London Entrepreneurial Exchange calling for a UK-wide enterprise zone to kick-start the economy.
Benefits available to businesses in the 21 enterprise zones recently announced by George Osborne include super-fast broadband and fast-track planning applications. Business starting up in these areas will also receive a 100% business rates exemption.
The group of entrepreneurs, who include founders of Lastminute.com and Pizza Express, also called on the Treasury to examine targeted VAT cuts and slash employment red tape, following an "underwhelming" Chancellors speech at the Conservative Party conference in Manchester.
