2010-08-11 : Promise from Sky to Backdate Fee Reductions
Pubs that have successfully appealed their business rates will get a reduction in their Sky fees. The broadcaster will pay back the excess from fees already paid from the time when the rating appeal is approved. This period will cover a maximum of 12 months.
As it is estimated that between 2,000 and 3,000 pubs have appealed their rates after rateable values increased by an average of 23% since the beginning of the 2010 Rating List, this is considered a significant move.
A meeting between the British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA) and Sky has been proposed to discuss Sky's pricing structure and the impact it is having on pub trade.
